A lost sock obituary Compression, Right
2019 – 2025
Est. 2019. Last seen March 2025.
- Graduated compression, black, issued singly
- Submitted by H. in Swansea

Compression, Right was prescribed in 2019, after an operation on H.'s right leg that H. would rather not describe on a website. It arrived with a fitting appointment, a tape measure, and instructions for putting it on that filled both sides of a sheet.
The prescription covered one leg, so it was issued alone. It is the only sock in this register that never had a partner to lose. The left foot carried on in ordinary socks and was never consulted.
It was black, firm, and graduated, and it never pretended to be decorative. H. wore it every day for six years, including two vacations and one wedding, where it went under formal wear with some effort.
Putting it on took practice. Taking it off took a doorframe. H. describes the relationship as one of mutual respect rather than affection.
For the first year H. washed it by hand, as the instructions asked. After that it went in the machine, because H. had stopped reading the instructions. In March 2025 it went in and did not come out. H. has since read the instructions again.
It was replaced at a cost H. would like noted. The replacement fits exactly as well, and H. has not forgiven it for that.

No partner. Every other sock in this register left one in a drawer. This one left a tape measure and a mark on the doorframe.
